Describe the process(es) your organization has in place to ensure that your engagement activities are consistent with your overall climate change strategy[…]Last year, we joined Race to Zero, a global UN-backed campaign to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Following this commitment we announced our interim carbon reduction target, a 35% carbon emissions intensity improvement by FY2035 on a FY2020 baseline. The target aligns with the Science-Based Targets (SBT) sectoral decarbonisation pathway and has also been submitted to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for validation. The Science-Based Targets initiative's aviation sectoral approach aims to limit global warming to well below 2°C, in line with the Paris Agreement. easyJet worked as part of the Technical Working Group (TWG) of dedicated experts from industry and NGOs who provided detailed input during the planning phase and on various drafts of the guidance and tool. SBTi requires airlines to decarbonise within their own operation, thus not using out-of-sector carbon offsetting or other market-based mechanisms such as ETS (Emissions Trading System).

easyJet supports the 'polluter pays' principle. In the EU's 'Fit for 55' this has translated into easyJet advocating for:
• Full-scope policy for the EU's Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs) mandate – i.e. applying the mandate to all EEA departing flights, rather than only intra-EEA flights. This increases the emissions from departing flights covered by the mandate from circa 40.5% to 100%.
• All-departing-flights approach to the EU's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), instead of covering only intra-EEA flights, which would likewise lead to an increase in coverage from 40.5% of EEA departing flight emissions to 100%.
• Amending the EU's fuel tax proposal so that it covers all flights and all destinations equally, reflecting the 'polluter pays' principle.
• Opposing the carve-out of any flights or networks from any EU climate legislation.

easyJet has a range of internal processes to ensure that its advocacy is consistent with and reflects these positions. Overall sustainability policy is set by the sustainability Steering Committee, which is chaired by the CEO. The leaders of both easyJet's communication and political / policy engagement teams are on this committee. This ensures there is overall alignment of easyJet's positions and practices. Alongside this there are internal working groups which bring together all relevant functions across the business which help ensure there is alignment on a day to day basis.
