Describe the process(es) your organization has in place to ensure that your engagement activities are consistent with your overall climate change strategy[…]We regularly engage in science based advocacy with policy makers to help ensure that we proactively address the societal threat posed by climate change. Our aim is to have climate-based policies that protect nature and society for the long-term; this will help ensure the sustainability of our business. Any engagement is consistent with our Global Code of Ethics (https://www.astrazeneca.com/content/dam/az/PDF/Sustainability/Code_of_Ethics_English.pdf). The Code of Ethics applies to all employees and
explicitly states "the code defines our values at work and guides our behaviours to deliver life-changing medicines'. This includes ensuring all activities are in line with the overall company Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) strategy, including climate change. Our Code of Ethics describes the importance that we place on the integrity of everything we do and every interaction we have. Maintaining integrity and living our values in all of our interactions protects our science, upholds our reputation, and builds public trust. Any interactions with policy makers (direct and indirect) must be in line with our stated climate commitments and those shared with the Climate Group and our RE100, EP100, EV100 and SBT commitments. Engagement with policy-makers will either be in open forum or via our trade associations, the Climate Group, and conducted by individuals that either own our climate policy (i.e. subject matter experts; SMEs) or more senior executives who have been adequately briefed by the SMEs for climate.
Where these engagements are to try and shape policy, they will be evidence-based and supported by data and knowledge; usually in the form of peer-reviewed scientific evidence from the open literature. We do not lobby policy makers on climate related issues without scientific data to support the need for regulatory review. An environmental related statement from the code reads: "Ensure that scientific and business decisions are based on strong science† .
