Lobbying Governance
Overall Assessment Analysis Score
Strong Winpak Ltd has established a defined governance process for aligning its lobbying activities with its climate change strategy, beginning when “internal teams come across information or stories of a regulatory or policy nature that could impact Winpak positively or negatively in terms of climate change,” which is then “fed to the Director, Corporate Sustainability.” That individual, together with “external resources, like trade associations Winpak is engaged with,” evaluates the information and delivers an assessment to the Executive Committee during its weekly meetings, where “the EC, along with the Director, Corporate Sustainability, discuss potential outcomes or impacts… and debate possible actions to take,” including “influencing through trade associations, influencing through direct discussions with government officials, and/or written articles or papers supporting specific positions in line with our strategy.” The company further affirms a public commitment “to conduct your engagement activities in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.” While this framework clearly governs both direct and indirect lobbying and names a specific individual and formal body as accountable, we found no evidence of a publicly available audit or report dedicated to monitoring ongoing climate-lobbying alignment beyond the executive review process.
