Lobbying Governance

CCI has implemented a structured process to ensure its public affairs and climate engagement activities are aligned with its climate change strategy, though it does not disclose oversight of indirect lobbying through trade associations or a specific individual or committee responsible for climate lobbying governance. The company “provides internal trainings to keep all of our employees updated about our climate-related public affairs strategies,” with the Group Sustainability Office “responsible to communicate strategies and changes to the strategies to country teams.” It records any public engagement in a “stakeholder engagement log” that “has to be reviewed by both the sustainability and public affairs departments and the engagement activity cannot be performed without the approval of both departments,” and has a disclosure policy whereby “any presentation outside the company has to be sent to public affairs and sustainability departments and has to be approved by them.” While these measures indicate clear mechanisms to align and review direct lobbying activities, we found no evidence of governance over indirect lobbying or a named governance lead for climate lobbying.
