Banco Sabadell publicly signals an intention to keep its advocacy consistent with climate goals, stating "Does your organization have a public commitment or position statement to conduct your engagement activities in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement? […] Yes", which represents a general pledge to align its external engagement with the Paris Agreement. However, the disclosures reviewed focus almost entirely on sustainability risk management and do not extend that oversight to lobbying activities: although the Board Strategy and Sustainability Committee is said to be "responsible for analysing and reporting to the Board of Directors on environmental risk policies" and for "supervising the model for identifying, controlling and managing risks and opportunities in relation to sustainability", the company does not disclose any mechanism by which this or any other body reviews, approves, or monitors direct lobbying positions or the bank’s membership in trade associations. There is likewise no reference to procedures for auditing climate-lobbying alignment, no description of how potential misalignments would be addressed, and no named executive accountable for lobbying oversight. In short, apart from the high-level Paris-alignment commitment, we found no evidence of an internal governance process that specifically covers climate-related lobbying, indicating only limited transparency on this topic.
