Lobbying Governance
Overall Assessment Analysis Score
Limited Lagardère SA has established general oversight for its lobbying activities, with a Committee that “oversees and reviews, at least annually, the company’s public policy agenda, its position on significant public policy matters, political contributions and lobbying activities,” and it names “the North America Operating Unit Vice President of Public Policy, Federal Government Relations & Political Engagement” as responsible for managing its public policy agenda and political engagement. The company’s Code of Ethics “covers the issue of relations with political decision-makers and professional organisations” and prohibits political contributions, and the Secretary General “monitors all activities and investments serving to represent its interests... to exercise or seek to exercise... any influence on the application or necessary development... of the legal, regulatory and normative framework,” indicating some internal controls over its advocacy. However, we found no evidence of any process specifically to align its lobbying, direct or indirect, with its climate strategy, nor any commitment to conduct engagement in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement, as it has stated “No, and we do not plan to have one in the next two years.” The company does not disclose any climate-lobbying alignment review procedures or criteria for assessing its participation in associations based on their climate positions.
