Lobbying Governance
Overall Assessment Analysis Score
Moderate L&T Finance discloses elements of a governance approach that link its external engagement activities to its climate strategy; it states that it has "a public commitment … to conduct [its] engagement activities in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement" and outlines that "policy advocacy is an important step for driving climate change strategy across the value chain". With respect to oversight, the company indicates that the Board-level "CSR & ESG Committee is responsible for reviewing and overseeing implementation of the Policy" while the "L&T Finance Sustainability Team … act[s] as an interface with external parties on sustainability framework and disclosures thereof," which shows that identifiable bodies monitor implementation of the engagement policy. However, the disclosure remains high-level: the process it describes—"developing methodologies and sharing knowledge on climate change through the publication of white papers" and sharing them with "think tanks and NGOs"—focuses on information-sharing rather than detailing how lobbying positions are reviewed, approved, or aligned, and we found no evidence of systematic assessments of direct lobbying or of trade-association positions, nor any published lobbying-alignment review or escalation protocol. Consequently, while the company demonstrates a stated alignment commitment and names governance bodies that oversee its broader ESG policy, the transparency and specificity of its climate-lobbying governance are limited.
