Melia Hotels International demonstrates extensive governance around sustainability and climate strategy, with its “Board of Directors” responsible for “determining and approving the general policies and strategies of the Company, including this Policy” and receiving updates from the “Appointments, Remuneration and Corporate Social Responsibility Committee” on compliance levels. A dedicated “Sustainability Committee” is “responsible for ensuring that ESG criteria are included in the business strategy, by promoting the implementation and execution of projects or initiatives which are necessary to comply with the principles and objectives set forth in this Policy,” and “Meliá’s Senior Executive Team (SET) regularly supervises performance with regard to the sustainability and climate change strategies and ensures compliance with the targets defined.” However, we found no evidence of any governance process, oversight mechanism, or alignment framework for its direct or indirect lobbying activities, as no disclosure addresses who oversees lobbying, how lobbying is monitored or managed, or how alignment with climate or ESG goals is enforced.
