Lobbying Governance

Qurate Retail Inc has established a governance structure for overseeing its climate-related engagement activities, with “QRG’s Corporate Responsibility Leadership Team” leading and managing these issues in bimonthly meetings with its Corporate Responsibility Executive Steering Committee, and a Government Affairs team that “advises the CR Leadership Team on how to navigate climate related policies and regulatory trends/initiatives.” The company also “monitors and analyzes [government] policies and opportunities in real time to determine consistency with the company’s strategy for achieving those climate goals,” and its Corporate Responsibility team “sit on relevant committees – and participate in engagement activities – organized by the trade associations.” However, we found no evidence of a formal process to align direct lobbying efforts with its climate strategy or to review and, if necessary, exit trade associations whose positions conflict with its climate goals, and it explicitly states “No, and we do not plan to have [a Paris Agreement commitment] in the next two years.” These disclosures indicate moderate governance—strong in oversight and real-time monitoring, but lacking specific mechanisms for enforcing alignment of lobbying activities or a public policy commitment to the Paris Agreement.
